Ajisen Ramen- Comforting Noodles in San Mateo

Some cooler fall weather has come through the Bay area with it’s dense fog and chilly breeze. This kind of weather always has me craving a good soup for lunch.

I noticed recently a new ramen place has opened up on 3rd ave. a couple blocks away from my office. At the strike of noon I threw on my coat and walked over to Ajisen, the third in the Bay area franchise.

It was crowded when I walked in. There were people putting their names on a wait list and hovering in the doorway seating area. I ordered the miso ramen to go then waited along with the others by the door. It was nice looking around and seeing so many people blissfully slurping their noodle dishes with steam rising in their faces. It was like they were eating as if no one else was there.

I snuck a couple of photos, grabbed my ramen and headed back to the office. I didn’t photograph the ramen itself unfortunately. I got distracted by the build-your-own aspect of it and completely forgot. They give you the ingredients in a separate container from the broth to keep it as fresh as possible- which I’ve seen many places do.

The noodles tasted very fresh and the miso broth was very warming. I could not even come close to finishing, but for under $10 it’s a great lunch for 2 days after the leftovers. I have a feeling with winter approaching I’ll be hitting up Ajisen often.
