This weekend I was doing some furniture shopping in San Mateo and decided to hit up Rave Burger for lunch. I had been there once before and remember it being awesome.
It’s small, but well designed with modern furnishings and cool canvas prints of Far Side cartoons of cows. There is a small bar in the back (and it appears they have pretty good happy hour specials on weekdays 3-6.)
The menu is full of burger options including non-beef burgers. There are sliders available in different combinations if you ‘re not ready to commit to one kind. I went with a regular-sized burger and got the Greek burger. It had an olive spread, tomatoes, tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. I also opted for the spicy curly fries on the side.
The burger was cooked perfectly- medium with a slight pink hue in the center. It was juicy and full of flavor. The feta tasted really fresh and the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside with a slight kick of spice. The only thing I don’t get is California’s obsession with ranch dressing on the side of everything. I can do without.
Rave Burger is, so far, one of the better burgers I’ve had since moving here about a year ago. I’m looking forward to stopping in again for lunch soon.
