SF Chefs 2011

SF Chefs 2011 has begun! SF Chefs is San Francisco’s yearly food, wine and spirits festival. The event features famous chefs, mixologists, demonstrations, classes, parties, and of course, grand tastings. I first learned about SF Chefs last year during my first week in San Francisco. What a great welcome to a new city! I didn’t have the chance to attend but am hoping to hit up some of the festivities this year.   The heart of SF Chefs takes place in Union Square where the main events and grand tastings take place.

The grand tastings range from $100-$125/person. You can taste samples from local restaurants and drink some of the area’s best wines, not to mention sipping some of the hottest cocktails from top mixologists.

If that’s a little steep for you, there are many demonstrations and seminars for every interest and budget. Some of these include a demo with Michael Chiarello and Tyler Florence, seminars on pork and culinary design, chef challenges and even a cocktail clinic. Be sure to check out the full schedule as they are selling out quickly.

In addition to SF Chefs, there are also a number of restaurants participating in restaurant week. You can get a two course lunch for $20 or a three course dinner for $35. What a great way to try out a new restaurant for a small price.

If you’re in the area, be sure to get in on some of these great events and rub elbows with some of the best chefs, mixologists and sommeliers in the world.
